Senior Scientist Pharmacology

About the role:
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, conduct, and analyze in vitro experiments autonomously to produce significant data that supports our pre-clinical assets, including small molecules, biologics, or RNA-modulating oligonucleotides.
- Assess innovative pain targets, identify relevant tool compounds, and establish assay setups that facilitate their investigation, including the determination of their mechanisms of action.
- Act as a representative for Primary Pharmacology within interdisciplinary teams that propose, manage, and advance internal therapeutic research projects or collaborations with external entities such as academic institutions, biotech companies, or pharmaceutical firms.
- Create and implement cutting-edge assays and platforms for target exploration as well as for the mechanistic evaluation of therapeutic assets.
- Engage in hands-on work within our biology laboratories located in Aachen, Germany. Utilize scientific expertise to mentor and guide laboratory technical staff in their tasks while ensuring high standards of data quality and documentation.
- Promote open and effective communication within the team and across various functions.
Requirements:
- A PhD in in vitro pharmacology, neuroscience, cell biology, biochemistry, or a related field is required
- at least 3 years of experience in drug discovery within an industrial environment.
- Demonstrated experience and success in developing and utilizing relevant cellular and biochemical assays, such as binding assays, cellular signaling assays, calcium flux measurements, HTRF-based assays, high-content imaging, and RT-PCR. Familiarity with biophysical techniques like Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), Microscale Thermophoresis (MST), or Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is considered beneficial.
- Practical experience with cell culture methods involving cell lines, primary cells, and/or induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) derived models is essential.
- A strong commitment to data quality along with exceptional data analysis skills is required. Candidates should possess expert knowledge of relevant software tools and regression models, coupled with a quantitative approach to effectively leverage in vitro data.
- Experience in establishing screening standards and developing small molecule therapeutics or alternative modalities such as biologics or RNA therapeutics is necessary.
- A solid understanding of human chronic pain disorders will be considered an advantage.
