Trust and Retainer Accountant

 Job Description:

Our client, a top regional law firm, is seeking a Trust & Retainer Accountant to oversee and manage all trust accounting operations in full compliance with legal, ethical, and regulatory standards. This position plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of client trust accounts and ensuring accurate financial reporting for the firm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage client trust accounts in accordance with state bar regulations and firm policies
  • Record and monitor all trust transactions, including deposits, disbursements, wires, and transfers
  • Prepare and distribute accurate trust balance reports for attorneys and clients
  • Perform and review monthly trust account reconciliations, promptly resolving any discrepancies
  • Partner with attorneys and staff to ensure proper handling of client funds
  • Support audits and regulatory reviews related to trust accounting
  • Maintain compliance with IOLTA (Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts) requirements
  • Generate financial and compliance reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Assist with general accounting duties as needed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of trust accounting experience, preferably in a law firm environment
  • Proficiency with legal accounting software (Elite, Aderant, or similar)
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to learn quickly in a fast-paced environment
