Control and Automation Technician

Position Summary

The Automation & Control Technician is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving the facility's electrical control and automation systems. This role plays a critical part in ensuring reliable, efficient operations by contributing across the full lifecycle of automation solutions—from implementation and programming to troubleshooting and continuous improvement.

Working in close collaboration with the automation team, this individual will help advance the plant's long-term automation strategy. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in electrical controls and PLC-based systems, along with a hands-on approach to solving complex manufacturing challenges and enhancing system performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and support to maintenance personnel across the facility
  • Interpret and analyze electrical schematics, technical documentation, and regulatory requirements
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and automation issues using diagnostic tools (e.g., multimeters, software utilities, PCs)
  • Diagnose and repair PLCs, HMIs, and associated hardware to minimize downtime and improve system reliability
  • Identify and resolve control network and communication issues to maintain system connectivity
  • Support and troubleshoot robotics and automation software, applying strong analytical problem-solving skills
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to address technical issues and implement solutions
  • Partner with IT to support automation-related servers, networks, and infrastructure
  • Maintain and support mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems as needed
  • Develop and maintain clear technical documentation, including reports, procedures, and work instructions
  • Communicate technical information effectively to stakeholders at all levels, both individually and in group settings
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety, efficiency, and system performance
  • Take ownership of automation and control systems to ensure safe, consistent, and optimal operation

Qualifications & Experience

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, or a related field, plus 2+ years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and hands-on experience
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley / Rockwell Automation systems required
  • Proficiency with RSLogix 5000 and/or Studio 5000
  • Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create reports and procedures
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, vendors, and various levels of the organization
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems preferred
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment
  • Flexibility to work night shifts and weekends as needed
