General Manager - Role Description

Objectives

Maximize the financial performance of the Mitigation Division in service of achieving our financial objectives, including:

  • Producing all the work mitigation work sold in a responsive, timely manager, and with high quality, while ensuring customers are satisfied with the work
  • Managing overhead costs (i.e. mitigation-related costs that are not directly attributable to jobs) to an acceptable level
  • Managing the Mitigation Divisions capacity so as to be able to surge during periods of high demand while ensuring direct costs are controlled during periods of lower demand
  • Further develop the best practice template for operating the Mitigation Division so that high performing mitigation operations can be scaled and replicated in future locations, including:
  • Leading the Mitigation Team Members (project managers / estimators,
  • technicians and administrators), including managing their performance and supporting their career development, and in so making Company a sought-after place to work
  • Strengthening and maintaining the Companys reputation with customers, insurance carriers, referral sources and sub-contractors
  • Developing and implementing best practices for purchasing and maintaining the Companys equipment, vehicles, supplies and other assets
  • Implementing the use of paperless / digital tools across time keeping, customer contracts and project documentation
  • Strengthening the Companys safety culture and safety best practice adherence
  • Support the handover of desirable repair opportunities to the Repair Division by identifying them early, informing the Repair Team promptly, and supporting them in building productive relationships with the customers that translates into profitable projects
  • Support the Companys growth objectives by introducing company to desirable customers and referral sources in your network, creating opportunities for the Company to demonstrate our capabilities and win business


Areas of Responsibility and Duties

Mitigation project management:

  • Oversee all mitigation projects from end-to-end, ensuring they are completed with sufficient quality in a timely fashion, and estimated and invoiced profitably - When necessary, project manage mitigation projects directly
  • Provide feedback and direction to project managers, technicians and administrators on all matters related to mitigation projects
  • When necessary, step in to troubleshoot challenged projects, including interacting with customers, insurance carriers, subcontractors and any other stakeholders, as required to get projects back on track
  • Ensure the Company is leveraging the full value of Dash (and any other software tools) in terms of tracking project status, profitability, costs, invoicing, and collections accurately and in a timely fashion
  • Identify any significant risks to project success, including risks related to safety, permitting & inspections, customer dealings, subcontractor performance, employee performance, and insurance carrier dealings - Take action to avoid and/or mitigate these risks, as needed, to ensure project financial success
  • Assess individual project financial performance on a monthly basis, and upon project closure, in terms of profit margin and customer satisfaction - Identify the root causes of underperforming projects and develop and implement solutions to improve project financial performance
  • Oversee project invoicing and collections, ensuring that projects are invoiced and paid in full in a timely manner - Manage any legal actions related to mitigation projects
  • Oversee all Mitigation Division overhead expenses, in order to ensure these costs are being controlled and that sufficient value is being derived from them 
  • Participate in the annual budget setting process
  • Create and sustain a supportive and professional environment for all Mitigation Team Members, focused on excellence, professionalism and success
  • Conduct annual performance reviews and half-yearly check ins with all Mitigation 
  • Team Members, including drafting annual expectations and quarterly feedback commentary
  • Manage all aspects of Mitigation Team Members career development and
  • compensation, including performance management, promotion decisions, base compensation merit increases, and hiring and termination decisions
  • Oversee the daily scheduling of Mitigation Technicians and ensure their hours are being utilized optimally
  • Report monthly financial performance to the Mitigation Team in relation to its bearing on Company profit sharing bonus
  • Develop and evergreen recruitment strategy to continually attract A-players to the Company
  • Oversee of the care and maintenance of all mitigation company vehicles and equipment
  • Oversee the purchasing and use of all mitigation supplies and consumables
  • Oversee the management of the mitigation warehouse and ensure good
  • housekeeping
  • Determine capital investment needs (vehicles, equipment, etc.), develop business cases to justify capital investments, and ensure approved investments deliver on their business cases

  • Business development:
  • Work closely with the Business Development Team to develop new relationships with desirable customers and referral sources that will lead to new business for the Company
  • Work closely with the Repair Division to maximize the success of the Company as a whole, including optimizing the conversion of mitigation leads to desirable repair projects and providing a high level of service to key mitigation customers and referral sources
  • Support the Sales Team to build new commercial accounts as a technical
  • representative and face of the Companys mitigation services
  • Develop and implement a plan to foster five-start customer reviews on the relevant platforms
  • Administrative people leadership (a future responsibility; not required initially):
  • Manage all aspects of Administrative Team Members career development and compensation, including performance management, promotion decisions, base compensation merit increases, and hiring and termination decisions
