Fitness Equipment Technician
Role Summary
The Fitness Equipment Technician diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and assembles treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, strength machines, and other fitness equipment. This role covers workshop repairs, on-site installations, and field service, ensuring all equipment meets safety standards and optimal performance.
Key Duties
- Diagnose faults using diagnostic tools, service aids, or schematics for motors (AC/DC, up to 5HP), control boards (PCB troubleshooting, firmware updates), consoles (LCD/LED displays), wiring harnesses, sensors (optical, magnetic, Hall effect), and resistance mechanisms.
- Repair mechanical components including belts (running/deck), decks (wax/lubrication), rollers (front/rear), bearings (maintenance-free ball), frames (12-gauge steel), upholstery (tear-resistant leatherette), flywheels (min. 8kg), and hydraulic/pneumatic systems.
- Perform routine maintenance like lubrication, tension adjustments, calibration of speed/incline (0.8-22 km/h, 0-18° incline), preventive checks (daily/weekly/monthly), and belt replacements to minimize downtime.
- Assemble and install new equipment on-site or in-house, testing features like pulse monitors,
calorie counters, elevation/decline functions, and max user weights.
- Maintain parts inventory, order components (e.g., belts, bearings, electronics), document service reports with performance metrics, and deliver professional customer service during field visits.
Requirements
- Proven knowledge of electronics (multimeter use, soldering, circuit tracing), motors, mechanical systems, and fitness-specific components like variable resistance and whisper-quiet drive systems.
- 1+ years experience troubleshooting/repairing electronic and mechanical equipment; fitness equipment experience preferred but not required (Plus point if experienced in fitness equipment)
- Physical ability to lift 50-200 lbs, climb, bend, and transport equipment
- Strong problem-solving, communication skills, ability to read blueprints/schematics, and willingness to travel for field service.
