POSITION PURPOSE
Manage the Credit Unions ALM functions including IRR and associated reporting. Perform month-end processes, such as journal entries and account reconciliations. Manage cash accounts to ensure appropriate funding as well as to ensure that the Credit Union maximizes return from higher yield accounts. Daily monitoring of liquidity, and will recommend strategies for cash management, borrowing, deposit pricing, investments, etc. Maintain policies for Board reviews and update as needed. Develop and implement effective investment, participation, and borrowing strategies. Interface with auditors through Internal Audit to help facilitate audit requests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
- Prepare, manage and review ALM documentation including IRR reporting, economic trends and changes in the economic/investment fields.
- Attends meetings as required and participates on assigned committees.
- Perform tasks to assist with period end closing such as accruals, and be able to develop internal partnerships within the Credit Union to ensure that Accounting is proactive in recording entries.
- Prepare GL reconciliations with attention to detail, completeness and accuracy, including but not limited to management of loan participations and FNMA loan sales reconciliations.
- Monitor cash accounts and prepare daily entries as needed / investigate variances and initiate cash transfers.
- Assist Controller with preparation and analysis of Credit Union budget. Point of contact for branches and departments for annual budgeting and understanding/documenting variances.
- Work with other Accounting staff on high transaction volume GL accounts such as ATM and coin machines, researching and resolving differences.
- Coordinate with Auditors through Internal Audit to ensure queries are resolved in a timely way.
- Assist Controller with preparation of annual budget, and coordinate monthly budget variance analysis with branches and departments.
- Assist with analyzing investment opportunities and initiating investment transactions, maintaining support etc.
- Ad Hoc Accounting projects as needed, implement process improvements, increase efficiency of work flow.
- Ensure transactions are properly authorized and in accordance with company policies.
- Perform responsibilities of position in accordance with federal and state regulations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: Associates degree, plus three five years of related Accounting experience, preferably in a banking environment or a comparable combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge: Practical knowledge of accounting principles. This position requires that the employee gain a working knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) requirements and how they will affect their work. The employee will comply with all requirements of the BSA and cooperate with the designated BSA Officer in assuring compliance.
Experience Required: General Ledger/Reporting experience. Intermediate level Excel/Word. Knowledge of finance, investments, financial research, and reporting. Understanding of economic market and industry conditions. Familiarity with related laws and regulations. Understanding of asset liability management, cash flow modeling and budget preparations /reviews. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Skills/Abilities: Ability to project a professional appearance and positive attitude at all times. Must be open to challenge and risk taking within prudent constraints. Excellent written, verbal communication and analytical skills, and vision of accounting as an integral service provider for the entire Credit Union.
