SCOPE:

The role of the Security & Gate House Operator is responsible for monitoring all inbound and outbound traffic and operating all gatehouse operator functions in a fast pace processing plant and/or a transportation facility environment. The Security & Gate House Operator is to ensure the safety of employees, equipment, and property by keeping accurate logs of any visitor, employees, and contractor arrival and departure times. This role continuously supports Sofidels Employee Personal Practice Policy. Successful candidates will have a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and excellent communication and teamwork skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

  1. Take live weights of inbound and outbound loads
  2. Understand data flow through the supply chain and database systems
  3. Operate the scale system, taking ownership of key reports, communicating with transportation drivers and management
  4. Maintain accuracy of data in the scale program, which includes transportation, processing, billing, and reports
  5. Monitors and records all ingress and egress of the location to include all vehicles and pedestrians; issues guest badges using the site access system
  6. Secure the facility by notifying appropriate authorities if an intruder is on the property
  7. First point of contact for all emergency situations on the property
  8. Monitor calls off line and notify the department lead promptly
  9. Control all lanes of traffic with the automatic gate arms
  10. Observe and report unsafe drivers
  11. Monitor alarm panels, fire pump, camera security systems
  12. Provide written reports, fire, ambulance, disgruntled employees, and suspicious activity 24 hours a day.
  1. Maintain accurate overall record keeping for reporting and analysis
  2. Provide and maintain excellent customer service and efficient communication
  3. Use of telephone and/or radio communications with worksite operators and/or office personnel
  4. Maintain good housekeeping to avoid debris on or around scales for accurate reporting
  5. Comply with all company policies/procedures and state regulations for factual reporting
  6. Foster a safe work environment

Other functions may include: 

  1. Supports Sofidel Americas Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary, and hygienically sound workplace.
  2. Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional materials and supplies.
  3. Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain a specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
  4. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Tools and Equipment:

Computer, copy machine, fax, telephone, radiophone, walkie-talkie, calculator, and other hand-held electronics

Education/Experience:
High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to three years related experience; and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Ability:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and quality and procedure manuals written in English.

Math Ability:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide into all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Work Environment:

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests, and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
