About This Role

We are looking for an experienced Java Software Engineer to support the modernization of a legacy manufacturing application. The initial engagement is 480 hours, with a strong possibility of extension based on project progress and future development phases.

The primary objective is to analyze an existing PHP application and rewrite its functionality using modern Java technologies while maintaining business logic, improving maintainability, and preparing the application for future enhancements.

The project is within the manufacturing domain, so experience working with production, industrial, ERP, MES, or similar business systems is considered an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Analyze the existing legacy PHP application and understand its architecture and business logic.
• Rewrite application components from PHP into Java while preserving existing functionality.
• Design clean, maintainable, and scalable Java code following modern development practices.
• Collaborate with technical stakeholders to clarify functional and technical requirements.
• Identify opportunities to improve architecture, performance, and code quality during migration.
• Develop REST APIs and integrate with existing systems where required.
• Write unit tests and ensure code quality through testing and code reviews.
• Document technical decisions, implementation details, and migration approach.
• Estimate implementation effort and provide regular progress updates.
• Participate in technical discussions regarding modernization strategy and future architecture.



Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong commercial experience with Java.
• Knowleadge of PHP
• Experience migrating or modernizing legacy applications.
• Experience analyzing existing codebases and translating business logic into new implementations.
• Strong understanding of object-oriented design principles and software architecture.
• Experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs.
• Experience working with relational databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server).
• Strong SQL skills.
• Experience with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good written and spoken English.

Nice to Have

• Previous experience migrating applications from PHP to Java.
• Experience with Spring Boot and the Spring ecosystem.
• Experience with Hibernate/JPA.
• Experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines.
• Experience working on manufacturing, industrial automation, ERP, MES, warehouse management, or production planning systems.
• Understanding of legacy system modernization strategies and incremental migration approaches
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
• Knowledge of messaging technologies such as RabbitMQ or Kafka.
