Subsea Engineer

 Job Description:

Client: A subsidiary of a leading oil and gas exploration and production company.

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Type of hiring: 1 - 2 years of direct hire, with the possibility of renewal based on performance, OR permanent employment (subject to approval).

Key Objectives:

  • Provide engineering assistance for the maintenance and operation of CALM Buoy, Jacket, Manifold, and XMT in Sarawak and Sabah.
  • Act as a key individual for subsea repair and minor intervention activities.
  • Support in the oversight of subsea assets.
  • Serve as the representative of the company, as needed, during both routine and non-routine subsea inspection or intervention operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the company and PETRONAS HSE guidelines and safe practices throughout all subsea operations and interfaces.
  • Manage all tasks related to the maintenance of the subsea production system, including CALM Buoy, encompassing troubleshooting, spare parts, and ROV operations.
  • Provide support for subsea project interactions related to brownfield development.
  • Provide engineering support for well intervention in ongoing and future expansions.
  • Develop and assist in troubleshooting procedures and workpack.
  • Formulate and sustain long-term strategies for Intervention/Maintenance and Repair in collaboration with other members of the Subsea Group.
  • Supervise and assess outcomes of engineering work conducted by specialist contractors regarding fatigue and dynamics.
  • Participate in Risk Assessment (RA) and Hazard Identification (HAZID) as necessary.
  • Assist in the management of all Subsea Operations Contracts.
  • Contribute to financial oversight, budgeting, and Authorization for Expenditure (AFE) processes for Subsea Operations.
  • Serve as an interface between the Technical and Commercial teams.
  • Assist in the formulation of contract plans for Subsea Operations.
  • Monitor monthly expenditures against approved annual and ad-hoc budgets.
  • Support in maintaining the contracts database and purchase order system for the Subsea Department.
  • Coordinate the final acceptance of work and associated payments for the Subsea Department.
  • Assist in preparing and developing contract bid packages based on job requirements.
  • The role requires support for offshore development and operational activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a Mechanical Engineering-related field or its equivalent.
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in the oil and gas industry, specifically focused on Subsea Hardware/Structure.
  • Proficiency in comprehending subsea production systems.
  • Competency in using MS Office Products.
  • Strong collaborative skills, emphasizing effective teamwork.
  • Fluent in both written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with Finite Element Analysis software.
