Organizational Objective / Goal Organizational Objective: To provide a safe environment for the students, faculty and staff. To provide the appropriate law enforcement services to University of Mary Washington, as needed.
General Description of Position Performs law enforcement, crime prevention, security and related public safety functions within state controlled property. To protect life, property and enforce the rules and regulations of University of Mary Washington as well as the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia in such a manner which supports the mission of the University. Additionally, to provide a safe environment which is conducive to the education of students, and promotes harmony for all members of the University community.
Required KSAs / Competencies / Qualifications to successfully perform their work Knowledge of and experience in the principles and techniques of law enforcement, security, crime detection and prevention, as well as criminal investigation. Mandatory certification by the Department of Criminal Justice Services as a Law Enforcement Officer. Proficiency with and experience in the use of police equipment relevant to the job; to include the use of carried weapons. Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing, with diverse groups of employees, students and members of the general public; to interpret laws, polices, and regulations governing the operation of the institution; the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia and the United States of America.

Required Education Required: 1. Possession of a valid Virginia Drivers License. 2. Must be a U.S. Citizen 3. High school graduate or equivalency. 4. No prior conviction of a domestic violence crime 5. Mandatory certification by the DCJS as a law enforcement officer
Required Experience Must be a U.S. Citizen
Graduation from a high school or equivalency.
Preferred Education Associates degree or 60 credit hours of college-level courses
Preferred Experience CIT Certified
DCJS General Instructor
Required Licensure A. Certification as a Law Enforcement Officer by the Virginia DCJS; plus specialized training related to the position.
B.Possession of a valid Virginia Drivers License.
