JOB SUMMARY:

Serves as a Patrol Officer to protect life and property, prevent crime, preserve the peace, apprehend criminal subjects, maintain order, be aware of impending community problems; performs departmental maintenance as needed or directed; and other duties as assigned.

REPORTS TO:

Patrol Sergeant.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Responds to all law enforcement related calls.
  • Ensures that all assigned equipment is in an operable condition.
  • Patrols assigned area.
  • Assists the public in any way which is police related.
  • Assists other officers as required.
  • Issues summons for traffic or City Ordinance violations.
  • Investigates suspicious activity.
  • Investigates traffic accidents.
  • Arrests, processes, and transports criminal suspects to appropriate detention facilities.
  • May be required to assist in other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of City, State and Federal laws.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of law enforcement equipment.
  • Ability to acquire knowledge of principals, technical information and practices in the law enforcement field.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions and directions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good cooperative relationship with fellow employees and the general public.
  • Ability to practice sound safety and work habits.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Satisfactory results of background and employment screening checks including physical exam, psychological evaluation, and drug screening.
  • Must be bondable.
  • Must complete the City Field Training Program.

CERTIFICATES & LICENSES:

  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer license.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License.
  • All required certifications and licenses must be current and valid.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Through regular exercise and moderate living, shall maintain a physical condition as to be able to handle strenuous physical contacts or demands required of the active, uniformed law enforcement officer.
  • All employees are subject to random drug testing.
