Description

Assists in all aspects of daily jail operations and addresses a modified range of investigative duties related to calls for service originating at the Police Department.

Examples of Duties

  • Process prisoners in and out of the jail to include paperwork, photographs, fingerprinting, physical and mental medical needs assessment, prisoner classification, and property inventory.
  • Conducts searches of prisoners upon entering the jail and during confinement for contraband.
  • Responsible for dispensing and logging medication to prisoners as needed.
  • Must be capable of restraining prisoners when verbal skills fail to diffuse a situation.
  • Process paperwork using basic computer skills.
  • Responsible for basic sanitation of jail cells as needed.
  • Fingerprinting of citizens as requested for employer, adoption, or other reasons.
  • Responsible for inventory of prisoners' uniforms, blankets, and towels.
  • Assists other employees as needed.
  • Adheres to personnel safety, departmental policies and procedures, and general orders.
  • Informs supervisor of all work activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License and driving record must be in compliance with Town policy.

    Must submit to and pass a post-offer, non-regulated drug test and thorough background checks (including criminal history).

Desired Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:

  • Must have a general working knowledge of police officer and/or law enforcement regulations.
  • Must have good hand-eye coordination to operate police equipment (vehicles, weapons, radios, etc.).
  • Must have excellent communicative skills, both oral and written.
  • Bilingual skills are preferred.
  • Must be able to follow verbal and written directives; communicate courteously and effectively with other people, and maintain a pleasant and friendly personality at all times; exercise good judgment and make competent decisions in all activities; and maintain confidentiality with criminal and investigative information.
  • MUST WORK FLEXIBLE HOURS TO INCLUDE ALL SHIFTS; NIGHTS, WEEKENDS, HOLIDAYS, AND ACCEPT ON-CALL DUTY STATUS.

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:


Must be able to see, write, hear, talk, run, climb, bend, physically restrain a person, endure extended periods of exertion, and sit for long periods of time; to observe and remember names, faces, and details of incidents; to work in adverse environmental conditions.
