About the job Campus Police Sergeant
Responsibilities:
* Provide faculty, staff and students highly efficient and professional protection and service.
* Provide supervision in conjunction with the Lieutenant and all officers on duty.
* Direct, coach, mentor and leads subordinates in enforcing criminal laws and University policies and procedures.
* Supervise special assignments and details as required.
* Assist with the implementation and development of training programs and opportunities for members of the department.
* Review reports; compile time worked for other officers assigned to a tour of duty. Ensure accuracy on daily logs.
* Attend training classes in leadership, patrol techniques, crime prevention and awareness that enhances skill sets offered to the supervisory position realizing that it is more desirable to deter crime than react to it.
* Communicate and maintain good relations with faculty, staff, students, public, other law enforcement agencies and public officials.
* Promote an attitude of friendliness, helpfulness, tact, understanding and caring in the performance of assigned duties.
Qualifications:
* High School or G.E.D.
* Completion of one year of satisfactory service, must be a Special Police Officer, have successfully completed the Campus Law Enforcement Academy (250 hours), or an equivalent law enforcement academy.
* Have no disciplinary actions in file with recommendation for termination.
* Must have average job knowledge and strong leadership abilities.
* Ability to provide effective written and oral communication.
* Strong knowledge of public safety standards, operations and systems.
* Excellent knowledge of police, administrative and patrol procedures.
* Must be able to generate confidence with the campus community, prospective students, families, donors and the public.
* Ability to translate knowledge and skills into actions.
* Ability to write informative reports, review and classify departmental incident reports.
* Ability to manage police records and reports.
* Possession of current and valid U.S. drivers license appropriate to the type of university vehicle and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Driving Record (MVR) as stipulated in the Vehicle Guidelines and Procedures Manual administered through the office of Environmental Health and Safety. Annual clearance of MVR check through the Office of Environmental Health and Safety.
