Job Summary

The Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD), helping them seek, obtain, and maintain meaningful employment. This role plays a key part in promoting independence, self-advocacy, and community inclusion while empowering individuals to achieve their personal and professional goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build trusting, positive relationships and align individual needs with their goals.

  • Advocate passionately while encouraging individuals to advocate for themselves.

  • Identify opportunities for increased independence in work-related tasks.

  • Ensure all work is completed efficiently and meets employer expectations.

  • Support adherence to workplace policies and promote independence in the job setting.

  • Utilize adaptive tools and methods to enhance learning and communication.

  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners such as case managers, vocational counselors, and families.

  • Provide off-site support, including practicing skills, arranging transportation, and offering counseling.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation while monitoring safety and well-being.

  • Participate actively in team collaboration, feedback, and continuous staff development.

Qualifications

  • Minimum age of 18 years.

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Valid drivers license, reliable transportation, and current auto insurance.

  • Ability to pass background, driving, and healthcare registry checks.

  • Willingness to assist with personal care tasks as needed.

  • Ability to lift or provide physical support as required, depending on client needs.
