Job Summary
The Highway Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing a variety of highway maintenance tasks to ensure the safety, functionality, and appearance of roadways and transportation infrastructure. This role involves roadway repairs, debris removal, incident response, heavy equipment operation, and installation and repair of roadway safety features while following established safety standards and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Perform routine highway maintenance and repair activities.
- Repair potholes, fences, guardrails, bridges, and longitudinal cable barriers.
- Perform roadway seeding, sod installation, and herbicide application.
- Conduct road patrols and remove debris from roadways.
- Respond to roadway incidents and emergency maintenance needs.
- Operate heavy equipment and maintenance vehicles.
- Install, repair, and maintain roadway signs.
- Perform bridge maintenance and repair work.
- Operate hand tools and power tools safely.
- Follow all safety procedures and applicable regulations.
- Use smartphones and mobile applications to support daily operations.
- Work on-call, nights, weekends, and during emergency situations as required.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Roadway maintenance or construction experience preferred.
- MOT Certification preferred.
- CDL Class A preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to operate heavy equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physically demanding work.
- Ability to work safely in varying weather and environmental conditions.
- Ability to adapt to changing work schedules, including nights, weekends, and on-call assignments.
- Ability to use smartphones and mobile applications.
- Ability to pass background screening, fingerprinting, and drug testing.
