Job Summary
The Road Patrol Technician is responsible for maintaining roadways by removing debris, setting up traffic control devices, identifying roadway hazards, and performing routine highway maintenance. This role supports roadway safety by operating maintenance equipment, performing preventive maintenance on tools and vehicles, conducting inspections, and ensuring compliance with safety standards and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Patrol roadways to identify hazards and maintenance needs.
- Remove debris, litter, and other roadway obstructions.
- Set up and maintain safe traffic control using cones, signs, and arrow boards.
- Identify hazardous roadway conditions and report required repairs.
- Perform roadway maintenance, including pothole patching, brush cutting, weed removal, painting, and flagging.
- Operate hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Perform preventive maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
- Complete pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Report equipment defects and coordinate repairs with management.
- Follow all safety procedures and applicable regulations.
- Work outdoors in varying weather and traffic conditions.
- Support roadway maintenance operations as assigned.
Requirements
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and frequently bend, kneel, and twist.
- Experience operating hand and power tools.
- Ability to work safely around traffic, noise, chemicals, and heavy equipment.
- Ability to pass background screening.
- Flexibility to work a full-time schedule, including Monday through Saturday.
