Job Summary
The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicles and mechanical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. This role performs preventive maintenance, troubleshoots mechanical issues, operates hand and power tools, follows safety procedures, and ensures compliance with applicable regulations while supporting fleet maintenance operations.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Inspect, diagnose, repair, and maintain vehicles and mechanical equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance and routine servicing on fleet vehicles.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and equipment issues to ensure reliable operation.
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment safely.
- Ensure all repairs comply with company policies and applicable regulations.
- Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records.
- Inspect vehicles to identify potential mechanical problems.
- Follow all workplace safety procedures and use required protective equipment.
- Support maintenance activities during emergency and severe weather events.
- Adapt to changing work schedules and on-call assignments as required.
- Utilize smartphones and mobile applications to support maintenance operations.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Lift, move, and handle equipment and materials as required.
- Assist with maintaining fleet readiness and operational efficiency.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Minimum 10 years of experience repairing and maintaining automotive and mechanical equipment.
- Vocational training, technical certification, or equivalent experience preferred.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- Ability to pass background and drug screening requirements.
- Knowledge of vehicle maintenance, repair procedures, and safety standards.
- Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment.
- Basic arithmetic and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to adapt to new technology and mobile applications.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Flexibility to work full-time, on-call schedules, and during severe weather events.
