Fiber Splicer

Description
The Fiber Splicer is responsible for installing new cable linesboth underground and on utility polesand performing maintenance on existing cables, including evaluation tests and repairs.

Responsibilities:

  • Prep and splice fiber optic cables, locate problem areas, and perform necessary repairs using fusion splicers and fiber test equipment.

  • Install and maintain transmission and reception equipment for FTTH networks.

  • Install and maintain private line network systems and resolve issues preventing normal service operation.

  • Perform test and turn-up procedures in alignment with compliance standards.

  • Collect and interpret engineering documentation, including schematics, fiber management systems, and OTDR reports.

  • Support field maintenance teams, regional engineering teams, and other departments related to the fiber network.

  • Provide both demand and preventive maintenance for fiber networks and FTTH.

  • Maintain accurate documentation of network changes and upgrades.

  • Troubleshoot MDF/headend issues with third-party providers.

  • Ensure all connections meet required specifications.

  • Participate in on-call rotation as needed.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Valid, clean drivers license in the state of employment.

  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in fiber splicing, test equipment use, and restoration.

  • Proficiency with fusion splicing machines.

  • Strong understanding of broadband communication, fiber optics, and Metro Ethernet networks.

  • Ability to operate advanced test equipment (OTDRs, optical power meters, etc.).

  • SCTE certification is a plus.

  • Willingness to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays, including participation in on-call rotations.
