Job Description:
This entry-level position prepares individuals for a career in law enforcement. Recruits are responsible for protecting life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances, while developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to serve as a sworn Police Officer.
Duties include but are not limited to

Patrolling assigned areas for traffic and other violations using patrol cars, motorcycles, bicycles, or horses.

Making traffic stops and intervening in criminal activity.

Monitoring police radio and responding to citizen calls and complaints.

Obtaining and issuing warrants.

Interviewing suspects and witnesses, and following up with victims.

Coordinating with community agencies and groups.

Responding to public requests for information.
Hiring Process

Completion of an interview, background investigation (including polygraph), physical, and drug/alcohol screening is required.

The background process may take 6090 days. Disqualified applicants may reapply one year after disqualification.
Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.

Candidates may apply at 20 years and 3 months old but must be 21 at the time of Police Academy graduation.

Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Knowledge of English, mathematics, and technical equipment such as radios, police computers, radar devices, cameras, and firearms.

Skills in conflict resolution, applying laws and codes, report writing, safe driving in normal and adverse conditions, map/GPS navigation, and effective verbal and written communication.

Abilities to problem-solve, remain calm in stressful situations, follow procedures and orders, make timely decisions, exercise sound judgment, and work respectfully with a diverse public.
Licensing and Certifications

U.S. citizenship required.

Must possess a valid drivers license with a satisfactory record by Police Academy graduation.
