Job Description:

The SCADA Specialist is responsible for planning, designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining programs and process control equipment within a natural gas distribution system and its Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) network. The role also involves performing field calibrations, troubleshooting, and repairs of devices at gas gate stations, regulator vaults, and individual pressure sites. Additional responsibilities include maintaining standards and testing pressure gauges, voltage meters, infrared devices, and other related equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in the design, development, and implementation of the Natural Gas SCADA System, including process controllers, HMI software, graphic panel software, networking, troubleshooting, and database maintenance.

  • Recommend and assist with the implementation of goals, protocols, and standards for SCADA system design, security, and reliability.

  • Administer software programs related to the SCADA System, including management of DPCs, RTUs, PACs, PLCs, and HMI programs, as well as revisions and backup strategies.

  • Serve as technical lead for SCADA improvements, reviewing regulations and coordinating network modifications with capital improvement projects.

  • Lead security, maintenance, repair, and system improvements for SCADA controls and communications.

  • Install, configure, and modify hardware/software to improve efficiency, safety, and productivity.

  • Provide oversight on contracts for hardware/software upgrades and predictive maintenance.

  • Install and routinely calibrate flow, pressure, and temperature devices within the distribution system.

  • Provide training to controllers and other staff as required.

  • Work weekends and holidays as scheduled; serve as essential personnel during emergencies or hazardous conditions.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or Computer Networking.

  • Three years of process control experience with an emphasis in SCADA technology, natural gas distribution, or a similar system.

  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

Licensing & Certifications

  • Valid Drivers License required (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing or servicing a Gas SCADA System (or equivalent).

  • Completion of software development classes for process controllers and HMIs.

  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills, including public speaking.

  • Ability to provide technical direction and evaluation of others work.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ten years of experience developing/maintaining a distributed SCADA system in gas or water distribution.

  • Working knowledge of IEC 61131-3 programming standard.
