About the job Deputy Sheriff
Duties Include:
Maintain law and order and serve legal processes of the courts
Patrolling assigned areas
Investigating crimes and collecting evidence
Traffic control and enforcement
Serving legal documents and warrants
Transporting subjects and prisoners
Quelling disturbances and making arrests
Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen
Must be at least 19 years of age
High School Diploma or G.E.D.
Successfully pass the CJBAT for law enforcement
Graduate of a Florida Criminal Justice Academy or currently enrolled and must successfully pass the state exam
Must be able to work flexible hours, including shift work, holidays, and weekends
No marijuana usage in the past 12 months; no use of other controlled substances in the past 36 months
Successfully pass a physical agility test (PAT), truth verification exam, medical physical, and drug screen examination
Proficiency in written and spoken English is required
Preference given to applicants with:
A 4-year degree
Four years of law enforcement experience
Four years of military experience (police or K-9)
Or a combination of the above, totaling four years
Additional Information for Out-of-State Candidates:
Must have completed the Florida Law Enforcement Officer Certification or Equivalency of Training from a Florida law enforcement academy
Must have a passing score on the Florida law enforcement officer certification exam
