Role Overview:
The Dental Service provides medically necessary dentistry for individuals currently receiving or who have undergone chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and/or surgery for cancer or related diseases. Established in 1934, the service specializes in the diagnosis, consultation, and dental treatment of medically compromised patients in both outpatient and inpatient settings.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the management team to establish best practices and monitor workflows for proper procedures during exams.
- Handle pre-examination and post-treatment responsibilities, including sterile instrument management, organizing the examination room, ensuring adequate supplies, and maintaining inventory.
- Assist with examinations by performing duties such as charting, preparing materials and instruments, passing instruments, and suctioning.
- Provide guidance and promote professional development within the dental assistant team.
- Contribute to the onboarding, training, and mentorship of new dental assistant staff.
- Provide coverage for the Dental Manager when necessary, including reallocation of staff assignments, leading daily huddles, and performing clinical rounds.
Key Qualifications:
- 2-4 years of experience in a dental assistant role with increasing leadership responsibilities.
- Supervisor experience preferred.
- Strong understanding of dental technologies, including radiographic equipment (intra-oral, panoramic, and CBCT) and the ability to capture diagnostic-quality radiographs.
- Proven experience working on a team, providing leadership and guidance.
- Extensive knowledge of infection control and prevention in a dental environment.
- Experience providing care to patients of all ages, including children, adolescents, and older adults.
