About the job Lateral Deputy Sheriff

  • Must be a licensed Peace Officer by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) in good standing and ready to be commissioned upon hire
  • Must have a minimum of twelve (12) months of continuous experience as a full-time Peace Officer in a first responder position at any one agency and be currently employed as a first responder; OR,
  • Currently commissioned and assigned as an HCSO Reserve Deputy and have completed no less than 1,040 hours in a law enforcement First Responder position with the HCSO Reserve Command
  • Valid Texas Driver's License Texas
  • Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 vision, normal color, and peripheral vision
  • Correctable normal audible range in both ears
  • Must successfully pass the physical abilities test battery (PAT):
    • Obstacle Course (New)
  • Firearm's qualification
  • Must pass a thorough background investigation (Criminal background check, fingerprinting, personal interview, etc.)
  • Must pass a physical and psychological evaluation as required by TCOLE
  • Must pass TB skin test and drug screening
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
