Overview of role:

  • Conducts safety meetings for all employees, including planning, developing, implementing, and administering accident prevention and job training. Conducts the following training courses: first aid, defensive driving, CPR, new employee orientation, accident investigation, electric hazard, eye safety, and fire prevention.
  • Handles and maintains integrity and confidentiality of highly sensitive human resource and management information records.
  • Monitors and coordinates the motor carrier regulations for the cooperative.
  • Administers random drug and alcohol testing.
  • Accurately records and files all applicable illnesses and injuries to OSHA.
  • Coordinates with the Security Specialist to conduct new employee orientation.
  • Coordinates the work activities of environmental consultants.
  • Conducts incident investigation and documentation for all forms of incidents (vehicular, property damage, work procedure errors) and maintains all required documentation.
  • Potentially represents in a professional capacity for court or trial cases involving claims, damage, and/or theft.
  • Documents and coordinates all insurance claims.
  • Coordinates and directs the return to work, accommodations, and limited duty program.
  • Performs jobsite and facility work/equipment inspections.
  • Directs the shipping and cleanup of hazardous wastes, lead paint, and asbestos abatement to ensure that follows federal and state regulations.
  • Investigates general liability claims against and works with Risk and Security Manager to recommend a course of action.
  • Prevents and reduces accidents by studying accident reports; establishing causes of accidents; recognizing trends in types of accidents; coaching supervisors and employees, and publishing accident-prevention information.
  • Identifies and anticipates safety and health concerns and hazards by surveying environmental, operational, and occupational conditions; rendering an opinion on new equipment and procedures; investigating violations; and recommending preventative programs.
  • Works continually towards self-development to maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; benchmarking state-of-the-art practices, and participating in professional societies.
  • Available 24 hours a day 7 days a week to cover health and safety issues.
