Job Description:

Position: Manager Income Tax Compliance

The Manager Income Tax Compliance is responsible for federal, state, and international income and franchise tax compliance and defense.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage professionals responsible for the preparation of federal and state income tax returns.

  • Review complex federal and state income tax returns, positions, and supporting calculations, including LIFO and stock compensation.

  • Ensure tax returns and quarterly estimated tax payments are timely and accurately prepared and filed.

  • Research and document federal, state, and international income tax positions, evaluate alternatives, and make recommendations to leadership.

  • Insource and establish processes and systems to prepare partnership returns in-house that were previously outsourced.

  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations and rulings while maximizing value through tax planning strategies and analysis.

  • Determine income tax treatment of potential acquisitions, dispositions, and other transactions.

  • Manage federal and state income tax audits, including responding to Information Document Requests and developing positions in response to proposed adjustments.

  • Assist with multiple tax planning projects, including the annual Research and Experimentation tax credit process, and support tax return filing positions.

  • Monitor and model potential impacts of federal and state proposed income tax legislation.

  • Assess potential uncertain tax positions and document support clearly and concisely.

  • Identify and implement process changes to improve efficiencies across income tax areas.

  • Establish strong relationships through effective communication with both internal personnel and external advisors.

  • Recruit, retain, motivate, and develop a lean, efficient, and effective team of highly skilled tax talent.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or equivalent field (CPA, Masters of Taxation, or JD a plus).

  • 610 years of federal, state, and international tax planning and compliance experience with a large corporation, law firm, or Big 4 accounting firm.

  • Strong understanding of tax accounting rules under GAAP.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to work effectively in remote settings.

  • Team-oriented with willingness to learn.

  • Experience with tax research software (CCH Intelliconnect and/or RIA Checkpoint).

  • Strong Excel skills.

  • Corptax experience preferred.
