Job Summary
Assistant Teachers support the planning and implementation of educational programs for children ranging from infants through school age, depending on program needs. This entry-level role assists in facilitating age-appropriate activities, promoting childrens social and emotional development, and ensuring consistent supervision in a safe, healthy, and supportive environment.
Essential Functions

Support the implementation of developmentally appropriate curriculum aligned with learning foundations and childrens interests

Help maintain intentional, enriched, and supportive learning environments and quality experiences

Build authentic, culturally responsive relationships with children, families, and team members

Ensure childrens health and safety through proper supervision, positive interactions, and adherence to safety standards

Work collaboratively with teaching staff to deliver high-quality programs and positive workplace culture

Maintain safe emotional and physical environments

Ensure regular attendance, punctuality, and active participation

Engage in both indoor and outdoor programming

Be physically and mentally capable of meeting the needs of children up to 13 years of age

Follow safety guidelines, report concerns, and remain calm during emergency or first-aid situations
Physical & Environmental Conditions

Work in indoor and outdoor environments, including safe weather conditions

Conduct visual safety checks and implement preventative measures

Tolerate occasional loud noise during activities

Perform frequent bending, lifting, reaching, pushing, and pulling

Lift and carry items up to 15 lbs. individually or with assistance

Navigate playground equipment, uneven terrain, and varied surfaces
-
Adapt to childrens physical levels by sitting, kneeling, or squatting
-
Supervise off-site activities and field trips as required
Qualifications & Experience

Assistant Teachers work under the direction and supervision of lead teaching staff and support daily classroom operations.
Education
-
Education and permit requirements may vary by program and age group
-
One of the following is required:
-
6 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or a related field with passing grades, or

Accredited certificate of training in child care or related fields

Experience & Skills
-
Six months of experience in a group care or classroom setting preferred

Strong communication, classroom management, and problem-solving skills
-
Effective organization, time management, and basic documentation abilities

Ability to collaborate within a professional team environment
-
Adult and infant/child CPR & First Aid certification preferred
-
Bilingual or multilingual skills preferred based on program needs
