Description:
The Maintenance and Operations Supervisor, Senior is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the work of staff engaged in sanitary sewer and storm water maintenance, repair, and operational programs. This position supervises designated staff within wastewater collections, ensuring efficient operations and compliance with safety and quality standards. Duties include directing workflow, developing schedules, maintaining records, investigating and resolving citizen concerns, participating in long-range planning, making decisions on equipment and material usage, managing inventory, and coordinating with contractors, vendors, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Crew Chiefs, Equipment Operators, and Pipeline Technicians responsible for maintaining and repairing wastewater infrastructure.

  • Coordinate and plan schedules by prioritizing and assigning projects.

  • Implement performance standards for sanitary/stormwater construction, maintenance, and repair.

  • Oversee the maintenance of equipment, machinery, and vehicles, ensuring compliance with safety procedures and operational standards.

Minimum Training and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Four years of experience in the assigned area.

  • Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.

Licensing/Certifications:

  • Valid Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Valid Commercial Drivers License and/or certification in a skilled trade may be required depending on assignment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

  • Generators, mechanics, and maintenance procedures.

  • Local trade codes, OSHA regulations, and safety standards.

  • Supervisory practices, recordkeeping, and asset management.

  • Tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair.

  • Traffic control and utility marking requirements.

  • Relevant industry standards (e.g., AWWA for water systems).

  • Computer programs such as Microsoft Office Suite and related databases.

Skills in:

  • Leadership, training, and staff supervision.

  • Effective oral and written communication.

  • Report writing and recordkeeping.

  • Reading comprehension and drafting/drawing.

  • Customer service and issue resolution.
