Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The Patient Support Specialist is responsible for responding to patient inquiries related to insurance benefits, patient responsibility, eligibility, claims, and payment plans in a confidential and professional manner. This role ensures timely communication, accurate documentation, and effective issue resolution while supporting overall patient satisfaction and billing operations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Respond to patient inquiries via phone, email, and written communication regarding insurance benefits, provider contracts, eligibility, claims, and financial responsibilities

Resolve patient concerns and complaints promptly and professionally

Establish and manage patient payment plans when requested

Document all interactions in the electronic health record system with clear and thorough notes

Work assigned patient cases and inquiries within the system

Respond to all patient calls or requests within the required timeframe

Research and analyze data to identify operational or customer service challenges and report trends to management

Provide requested information to patients, including those who may be upset or frustrated

Assist with additional billing and collections tasks as needed
JOB REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or GED required

Previous experience in medical billing or a related field preferred

Proficiency with electronic health records and billing software preferred

Experience with Athena is preferred
