Job Description:

JOB SUMMARY

The Patient Support Specialist is responsible for responding to patient inquiries related to insurance benefits, patient responsibility, eligibility, claims, and payment plans in a confidential and professional manner. This role ensures timely communication, accurate documentation, and effective issue resolution while supporting overall patient satisfaction and billing operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Respond to patient inquiries via phone, email, and written communication regarding insurance benefits, provider contracts, eligibility, claims, and financial responsibilities

  • Resolve patient concerns and complaints promptly and professionally

  • Establish and manage patient payment plans when requested

  • Document all interactions in the electronic health record system with clear and thorough notes

  • Work assigned patient cases and inquiries within the system

  • Respond to all patient calls or requests within the required timeframe

  • Research and analyze data to identify operational or customer service challenges and report trends to management

  • Provide requested information to patients, including those who may be upset or frustrated

  • Assist with additional billing and collections tasks as needed

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Previous experience in medical billing or a related field preferred

  • Proficiency with electronic health records and billing software preferred

  • Experience with Athena is preferred
