Job Description:

The Civil Designer's primary function is to draft and design (with guidance from an engineer) site developments. Typical elements will include roads, layouts, water and sewer systems, drainage, grading, stormwater management, and erosion control. The Designer will be responsible for meeting project schedules as assigned by their supervisor.

Job Responsibilities

  • Prepare conceptual and preliminary site masterplans, meeting the various zoning constraints for the given jurisdiction (setbacks, buffers, parking requirements, etc.).

  • Work with GIS Shapefiles obtained from localities, as well as DEM and/or LAS files, to develop preliminary topographical maps for preliminary engineering and due diligence. Experience with AutoDesk Recap, ArcGIS, or similar software required to generate contours in AutoCAD.

  • Assist in the preparation of construction documents (drawings/plans, specifications, spreadsheets, exhibits, reports, diagrams, etc.) for submission to local, state, and/or federal governmental review agencies.

  • Perform CAD drafting using AutoCAD Civil 3D on a regular basis to transform conceptual designs into final drawings. • Collaborate with other professionals (landscape architects, geotechnical engineers, soil scientists, surveyors, etc.) to assist in the development of construction documents for land development projects (residential, commercial, industrial, institutional).

  • Delineate drainage areas, determine time of concentration, and weighted C-values to calculate stormwater flow rates using the rational method and design storm sewer systems. Knowledge of ODOT drainage structures and standards required.

  • Determine horizontal and vertical layouts for roadways and utilities associated with residential and commercial designs.

  • Prepare Erosion and Sediment Control plans meeting ODOT standards and local jurisdiction requirements.

  • Assist Project Engineers and Project Managers with stormwater management designs and be familiar with Ohio EPA Rainwater and Land Development Standards.
