SCADA Specialist
Description:
The SCADA Specialist will plan, design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain programs and process control equipment within the Electrical Distribution System and the Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) System. The role also includes field calibrations, troubleshooting, and repair of various support devices within electrical substations, along with maintaining standards and testing gauges, voltage meters, and other devices.
This position may require working weekends and holidays as scheduled. It is considered an Essential Personnel role, meaning the incumbent must work during public emergencies, hazardous conditions, or inclement weather.
Key Responsibilities:

Participate in the design, development, and implementation of SCADA systems (Bristol Babcock, Emerson ControlWave, Automation ONSPEC HMI, EZTouch Graphic Panel Software).

Troubleshoot AC/DC electrical systems, oversee independent projects, and maintain databases.

Recommend and implement goals, protocols, and standards for SCADA system design, security, and reliability.

Administer SCADA software programs, including management of DPCs, RTUs, PACs, PLCs, and HMI programs with revision and backup strategies.

Lead improvements, security, and maintenance of SCADA control and communication systems.

Install, configure, and calibrate hardware and software for efficiency, safety, and reliability.

Provide oversight on hardware/software contracts and predictive maintenance.

Offer training to system controllers and other staff.

Participate in structured training programs, including vendor-specific and internal development opportunities.
Minimum Training and Experience:
-
Associates Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or instrumentation/control-related field.

Three (3) years of process control experience in a SCADA-based system (Natural Gas Distribution or similar).

Equivalent combinations of training and experience may be considered.
Licensing/Certifications:

Valid drivers license with a satisfactory record (must obtain local state license within 30 days of hire).

Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
-
Electrical theory and practices (digital & analog circuitry).

Bristol Babcock and Emerson ControlWave hardware/software.
-
SCADA network standards, performance, and optimization.
-
Network security, communications (radio/wireless), firewalls, routers, switches, and related HMI/DPC/PAC/PLC systems.
Skills in:

Interpreting SCADA performance metrics and explaining to non-technical audiences.

Reading and understanding schematics, loop drawings, and flowcharts.

Troubleshooting and problem-solving.
Abilities to:

Manage and provide technical assistance for SCADA design, installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.

Analyze complex problems and make critical decisions under time constraints.

Work safely around high/low voltage electrical equipment.

Perform duties in adverse weather or environmental conditions.
-
Build and maintain effective working relationships.
