Emergency & Critical Care (ECC) Veterinary Nurse Dundrum Area
Contract: 7 days on / 14 days off
Salary: From 40,000+ DOE
The Vet Office is recruiting an experienced Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Nurse for a modern small-animal clinic located in the Dundrum area, which has recently launched a new overnight and weekend emergency service.
This is a rare opportunity for an RVN who thrives in emergency situations, enjoys a fast-paced environment, and wants to contribute to delivering world-class 24/7 patient care.
The role offers an exceptional worklife balance with a rota of 7 nights on, followed by 14 nights off, along with a competitive salary and strong professional support.
About the Role
The ECC RVN will be a key part of the night team, ensuring the highest standards of patient care throughout the night and during weekends.
This position is ideal for a nurse who is clinically confident, resilient, compassionate, and committed to providing outstanding care during critical situations.
You will work with a dedicated team and contribute to the success of a newly established Out-of-Hours service, delivering care to both existing and new clients.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care & Monitoring

Provide hands-on nursing care to critically ill and emergency patients

Monitor vital signs (HR, RR, temperature, BP) and respond appropriately
- Assess pain levels and administer required pain management under supervision
Emergency Response
- Assist vets in emergencies including resuscitation, wound management, and surgery

Triage cases and prioritise treatment based on severity
Medical & Technical Procedures

Place and maintain IV catheters, NG tubes, and critical care equipment

Administer medications, fluids, and nutritional support

Perform diagnostic tests (bloods, urinalysis, imaging preparation)
Anaesthesia & Recovery

Assist with anaesthetic induction, maintenance, and monitoring

Provide post-op care and ensure safe recovery
Infection Control

Maintain sterile environments and adhere strictly to cleaning/disinfection protocols
Client Communication
- Provide compassionate updates to owners regarding their pets' condition and prognosis

Give clear and supportive guidance on post-care instructions
Team Collaboration

Work closely with vets, nurses, and support staff

Mentor junior team members when required
Equipment & Inventory Management

Ensure emergency equipment is functional and maintained

Monitor stock levels and medication supplies
Record Keeping

Document patient treatments and progress accurately

Provide thorough handovers between shifts
Ongoing Professional Development

Keep up to date with ECC best practices

Attend workshops and training sessions
Essential Requirements

VCI registration
-
Minimum 5 years experience as a small-animal RVN
-
Strong desire to work nights/weekends

Ability to work in a busy, fast-paced emergency environment
