Veterinary Surgeon (3+ Years Experience) Rathgar, Dublin

Salary: 55,000 - 70,000 DOE

The Vet Office is recruiting an experienced General Practice Veterinary Surgeon to join a modern, well-equipped small-animal clinic located in the Rathgar area (Dublin).

The practice is based in a modern, purpose-built site and offers excellent facilities, including:

  • In-house laboratory

  • Digital X-ray & dental X-ray

  • Ultrasound

  • Two spacious surgical theatres

  • Four consultation rooms

  • Separate dog and cat wards

  • A strong commitment to fear-free handling and patient comfort

The clinic is conveniently located in Rathgar, with easy access from South Dublin and surrounding areas.

The Ideal Candidate

The clinic is looking for a Veterinary Surgeon who:

  • Has 3+ years experience in small-animal practice

  • Is competent and confident in medicine and surgery

  • Is highly motivated, hard-working, and a strong team player

  • Has a genuine interest in delivering high-quality clinical care

  • Values continuous learning CPD and further education support provided

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Duties

  • Diagnose, treat, and manage patients to high clinical standards

  • Work up cases thoroughly within the clinic before referral

  • Take full responsibility for ongoing patient care, including appropriate after-hours instructions
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date medical records

  • Prescribe and dispense medications safely and correctly

  • Provide clear communication to clients, offering estimates and detailed explanations of treatment plans
  • Promote preventative care, including Pet Health Plans and pet insurance
  • Ensure all bills and treatment costs are accurately recorded

Client Care Responsibilities

  • Deliver an outstanding client experience in person, by phone, email, and online
  • Communicate with clients in a compassionate, professional, and informative manner
  • Support a welcoming and positive environment for clients and their pets

Team & Training Responsibilities

  • Communicate effectively with the clinic team to uphold high standards of patient care

  • Provide guidance and basic clinical training to junior staff where required

  • Support a collaborative, respectful team culture

  • Assist in maintaining the clinics professional appearance and daily operations

Professional Standards

  • Maintain VCI membership and remain compliant with Irish veterinary legislation
  • Follow professional conduct guidelines and meet CPD requirements

  • Uphold a standard of behaviour that reflects positively on the veterinary profession
  • Complete administrative and clinical tasks accurately and efficiently

  • Adhere to all workplace health and safety requirements

Knowledge & Skills

Essential

  • MVB, DVM, or equivalent with current VCI registration

  • 3+ years experience in a small-animal practice

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Strong time-management and organisational abilities

  • Ability to make confident clinical decisions

  • Ability to work independently and within a team

  • Interest in working in a progressive, collaborative environment

  • Ability to investigate and treat clinical cases appropriately

Desirable

  • Additional veterinary qualifications or advanced clinical training
