IFRS Lease & Payable Accountant
The IFRS Lease & Payable Accountant is responsible for ensuring compliance with IFRS accounting standards, specifically focusing on lease accounting (IFRS 16) and payables management. The role involves preparing, analyzing, and maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring that all transactions related to leases and payables are correctly recorded and reported. This position requires strong technical knowledge of IFRS, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to process improvement.
The Role
- Ensure accurate recording and reporting of leases in compliance with IFRS 16.
- Maintain and update the lease accounting database, ensuring completeness and accuracy of lease agreements.
- Calculate lease liabilities, right-of-use assets, and related depreciation and interest expenses.
- Prepare monthly and annual lease accounting reconciliations and disclosures for financial statements.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to review and assess lease agreements for proper classification and recognition.
- Oversee the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments.
- Reconcile vendor accounts and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
- Monitor aging payables and prepare reports for cash flow management.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining best practices for payable processes and internal controls.
- Prepare and assist with financial reporting, including balance sheet reconciliations and journal entries for leases and payables.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting standards, company policies, and internal controls.
- Assist in audits by providing the required documentation and explanations related to leases and payables.
- Identify areas for improvement in lease accounting and payable processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
- Support the implementation of new accounting systems or tools to automate and streamline processes.
- Work closely with procurement, legal, treasury, and other relevant departments to ensure alignment on lease and payment terms.
- Provide guidance to team members and other stakeholders on IFRS 16 and payable-related queries.
The Person
- Bachelors degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA, ACCA, or equivalent qualification preferred.
- 35 years of experience in accounting, with a focus on IFRS compliance.
- Experience with IFRS 16 lease accounting and accounts payable management is essential.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS standards, particularly IFRS 16.
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, or similar ERP systems).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
