Job Openings Finance Manager - UK

About the job Finance Manager - UK

In This Role, You Will

  • Run end-to-end month-end close for a portfolio of clients: pre-close preparation, transaction management, journal entries, and draft management reports with supporting schedules
  • Own full balance sheet reconciliations each month, signed off to source
  • Handle day-to-day bookkeeping and transaction management: keeping the books clean, current and well-coded
  • Prepare draft management accounts and reporting packs for client review, including commentary and variance analysis
  • Maintain and update cashflow forecasts so clients have a clear, current view of their position
  • Reconcile revenue and payment processors across the channels relevant to each client (Shopify, Stripe, PayPal and others)
  • Work proactively to spot issues before they become problems, and bring solutions, not just observations
  • Manage a recurring task backlog across multiple clients, staying on top of what's urgent, what's important and what can wait
  • Collaborate closely with the wider team in regular working sessions
  • Look for ways to do things better: sharper processes, smarter use of tools, and AI-assisted workflows where they genuinely save time

A typical week: multiple client touchpoints, transaction management and reconciliations, month-end prep or close in progress for at least one client, a few client calls, and steady progress on your backlog. No two days look the same.

About You

To excel in this role, you need:

  • Solid double-entry accounting: you understand the mechanics, can manage transactions accurately and post journals with confidence
  • Experience owning a month-end close process end to end, from pre-close checks through to draft management accounts and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Advanced Xero: bank rules, tracking categories, reconciliations, reporting layouts. You know the platform well
  • Strong Google Sheets: you can build and maintain models, not just read them
  • Comfortable with AI tools (Claude, Gemini): you use them to work faster, not as a substitute for understanding
  • Experience working across multiple clients or business units simultaneously, so you're comfortable with the pace and context-switching that entails
  • Commercial awareness: you can read a set of numbers and understand what they mean for the business, not just whether the debits equal the credits
  • Client-facing confidence: you're comfortable on calls, you can explain financial concepts clearly to non-finance founders, and you don't go quiet when things get complicated
  • Autonomous and self-directed: you can manage your own workload without constant supervision, but you're not too proud to ask for help when you need it
  • A problem-solver by instinct: when you find an issue, you come with options, not just the problem

Brownie points for:

  • Experience at a multi-client accounting firm or outsourced finance practice
  • Ecommerce accounting: A2X or Link My Books, COGS, inventory, payment processor reconciliations
  • Exposure to SaaS metrics and revenue recognition

The ideal person is detail-obsessed but fast, calm under a busy workload, and genuinely energised by the variety of working across different businesses. You keep your own backlog moving, communicate proactively, and treat each client's finances as if they were your own.

  • A proactive leader (more than technical skills)
  • Strong communicator and organiser with clients and managers (whether they are in industry or senior people in accounting firms - clear examples should be able to be demonstrated from experience).
  • Lead and manage month end from start to finish
  • Delivered on time and roadblocks managed.
