The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and strategic Head of Internal Accounting to lead and oversee the firms internal finance and accounting operations. This role is critical in ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and compliance of all internal financial processes while supporting the firms growth objectives. The successful candidate will act as the bridge between senior leadership and the internal accounting function, driving efficiency, compliance, and innovation.

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Lead, mentor, and develop the internal accounting team.
    • Establish clear goals, KPIs, and performance standards.
  • Financial Control & Reporting
    • Oversee preparation of internal financial statements, management accounts, and variance analysis.
    • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP, IFRS, and HMRC regulations.
    • Maintain robust internal controls and audit readiness.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting
    • Develop and monitor budgets, forecasts, and financial plans.
    • Provide strategic insights to senior management on financial performance and resource allocation.
  • Process Improvement & Systems Management
    • Streamline accounting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
    • Oversee implementation and optimization of accounting software and ERP systems.
  • Compliance & Risk Management
    • Ensure adherence to tax laws, VAT regulations, and corporate governance standards.
    • Identify and mitigate financial risks.
  • Strategic Contribution
    • Partner with leadership to support decision-making and long-term planning.
    • Provide financial insights to guide firm-wide initiatives and investments.

The Person

  • Professional qualifications preferably with ACA, ACCA, or CIMA.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience with at least 3 years in a leadership role in UK accounting and taxation experience is a must to apply for the position
  • Proven experience managing internal accounting functions within professional services or similar industries
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, with a record of accomplishment of building and developing high-performing teams.
  • Excellent communication in English and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with senior management and stakeholders.
  • Strong knowledge of UK accounting standards, tax regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in the use of packages like Xero, MYOB, Sage, and QB
