About the job Sprayers / Blasters (Ship Repair)
Venture Dynamics is seeking experienced Sprayers / Blasters (Ship Repair) personnel to support corrosion control and preservation projects in active Navy and commercial shipyard environments. The Sprayer / Blaster performs abrasive blasting, high-pressure surface preparation, and industrial spray application of protective coatings aboard vessels and structural components. This role supports ongoing ship repair and maintenance operations and requires journeyman-level experience in both blasting and spray application.
Responsibilities
- Perform abrasive blasting to required cleanliness and surface profile standards
- Operate high-pressure and ultra-high-pressure water equipment when required
- Prepare surfaces for preservation including scraping, chipping, sanding, and washdown
- Mix coatings accurately and apply via airless spray equipment in accordance with specifications
- Achieve required wet film thickness and coating uniformity
- Establish containment and maintain ventilation during blasting and coating operations
- Perform firewatch duties in accordance with shipyard safety requirements
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of ship repair or marine corrosion control experience at the journeyman level
- Demonstrated experience in both abrasive blasting and industrial spray application
- Ability to read and interpret coating specifications and work packages
- Firewatch trained, or ability to obtain firewatch training, in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Item 009-70 and OSHA 29 CFR 1915.504
- Ability to obtain and maintain required site access credentials, including DBIDS when applicable
- Must report with required tools of trade and safety gear
Preferred Qualifications
- AMPP (formerly SSPC) C-7 Abrasive Blaster certification
- AMPP (formerly SSPC) C-12 Spray Applicator certification
- Experience working aboard U.S. Navy vessels
- OSHA 10 Maritime
Additional Information
Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, tanks, voids, and industrial shipyard environments supporting repair and maintenance operations. Duties may involve confined or elevated spaces and active production areas. Respiratory protection is required during blasting and coating operations. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies. Reliable transportation is required to report to assigned project locations. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts based on project requirements.
