About the job ALL SHIPFITTERS
Venture Dynamics is seeking skilled Shipfitters to support Navy and commercial ship repair operations. The Shipfitter performs structural layout, fit-up, and steel fabrication work aboard vessels and in dry dock environments. This role supports hull repairs, insert installations, structural modifications, and equipment foundations in active shipyard settings. Shipfitters work closely with Structural Welders and other trades to complete steel renewal and alteration projects.
Per diem may be available depending on contract requirements and travel distance.
Responsibilities
- Lay out, fit, and assemble structural steel components including bulkheads, decks, frames, brackets, and foundations
- Perform steel insert installation, structural modifications, and hull repairs
- Read and interpret structural drawings, blueprints, and work packages
- Measure, mark, and cut steel using oxy-fuel, plasma, and mechanical cutting tools
- Align and prepare structural joints for welding operations
- Install temporary supports, strongbacks, and structural reinforcements as required
- Coordinate with Structural Welders to ensure proper fit-up and joint preparation
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of ship repair experience as a Shipfitter in a shipyard or marine industrial environment
- Strong proficiency with structural layout, steel fitting, and insert installation
- Ability to read and interpret structural drawings and weld symbols
- Experience using cutting torches, grinders, alignment tools, and fitting equipment
- Ability to perform structural layout and dimensional verification
- Firewatch trained, or ability to obtain firewatch training, in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Item 009-70 or OSHA 29 CFR 1915.504
- Ability to obtain and maintain required base access credentials, including DBIDS
- Ability to pass background screening and drug testing per customer requirements
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working aboard Navy vessels or to NAVSEA structural standards
- Experience supporting availability-level ship repair or modernization projects
- OSHA 10 Maritime certification
- Experience working in dry dock or heavy structural renewal environments
Additional Information
Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shipyard environments supporting Navy and commercial ship repair operations. Duties require working in confined and elevated spaces including tanks, voids, and overhead compartments. Exposure to industrial noise, heat, sparks, and structural hazards is expected. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies, and respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts depending on production requirements.
