Venture Dynamics is seeking a Project Accountant to support shipyard and industrial operations throughout the Virginia Hampton Roads region. The Project Accountant manages job cost tracking, accounts payable and receivable, payroll coordination, and financial reporting for marine repair and structural fabrication projects supporting Navy and commercial vessels. This role operates within active shipyard production environments and requires strong organizational control, accuracy, and the ability to support multiple projects simultaneously. This position contributes to ongoing vessel repair and industrial contract operations within high-volume shipyard settings.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and track detailed job cost records for ship repair and fabrication projects

  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions in accordance with project cost codes

  • Review and code vendor invoices, purchase orders, and expense reports to appropriate work orders

  • Support payroll coordination and labor cost allocation tied to project scopes

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and credit card accounts

  • Assist with monthly close activities and preparation of project margin reports

  • Coordinate with project managers and operations leadership to resolve billing discrepancies and cost variances

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of accounting experience in construction, marine, industrial, or manufacturing environments

  • Demonstrated experience with project-based accounting or job costing

  • Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel

  • Strong understanding of accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger processes

  • Ability to analyze cost data and identify discrepancies across multiple projects

  • Ability to obtain and maintain shipyard access credentials when required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with work-in-progress (WIP) reporting

  • Exposure to ship repair or government-related contract environments

  • Associates or Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

  • Familiarity with timekeeping or payroll systems supporting skilled trades labor

Additional Information
Work is performed in active shipyard and industrial environments supporting Navy and commercial repair operations. The role may require accessing vessels, production areas, or dry dock facilities as needed for coordination or review activities. PPE is required when entering shipyard or shipboard spaces in accordance with site safety policies. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts based on project requirements.
