Venture Dynamics is seeking a Marine Estimator to support shipyard operations throughout the Virginia Hampton Roads region, including Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, and Yorktown. The Marine Estimator develops detailed labor, material, equipment, and subcontract cost estimates for structural, mechanical, and multi-trade repair work on Navy and commercial vessels. This role supports active ship repair and modernization production environments and requires strong working knowledge of marine systems, shipboard nomenclature, and industrial estimating practices. This position contributes to ongoing vessel repair contracts within high-volume shipyard settings.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare comprehensive cost estimates for ship repair, alteration, and marine construction projects

  • Review drawings, specifications, and work items to determine labor hours and material requirements

  • Conduct ship checks aboard vessels to verify scope, access, and interference conditions

  • Perform quantity take-offs across structural, piping, mechanical, electrical, coatings, and insulation trades

  • Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations for accuracy and completeness

  • Develop pricing breakdowns for bids, proposals, and change orders

  • Maintain estimating spreadsheets, historical cost data, and material databases

  • Coordinate with project managers and production leadership to validate scope assumptions

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of estimating experience in ship repair, marine industrial, or heavy fabrication environments

  • Working knowledge of shipboard systems, structural and piping modifications, and repair practices

  • Ability to read and interpret ship drawings, technical specifications, and work packages

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating software

  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and meet proposal deadlines

  • Ability to obtain and maintain shipyard access credentials, including DBIDS when required

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience estimating work on Navy or government vessels

  • Familiarity with NAVSEA work items and shipyard production standards

  • Prior field experience in welding, fitting, pipe, or shipyard supervision

  • OSHA 10 Maritime

Additional Information
Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shipyard environments supporting Navy and commercial repair operations. Duties may involve ship checks in confined or elevated spaces and active production areas. Exposure to industrial noise and environmental conditions is expected. PPE is required in accordance with site safety policies, and respiratory protection may be required based on task or location. Work schedules may include overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts based on production needs.
