About the job Sheet Metal Mechanic
Venture Dynamics is seeking skilled and experienced Marine Sheet Metal Mechanics to fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal, joiner systems, ventilation ducting, and outfitting components aboard Navy and commercial vessels. Sheet Metal Mechanics layout and install bulkheads, doors, ceilings, furniture, lockers, HVAC ducting, and related shipboard structures using drawings, blueprints, templates, and verbal instructions. This position requires strong fabrication skills, the ability to work safely in confined and elevated marine environments, and a solid understanding of shipboard construction standards. This position supports shipyard projects throughout the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, including Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, and Yorktown.
Per diem may be available on select projects depending on contract requirements and travel distance.
Responsibilities

Lay out, fabricate, fit, and install bulkheads, doors, ceilings, joiner panels, furniture, consoles, shelving, and related structures

Measure, fit, and install HVAC ducting, fittings, hangers, insulation board, and ventilation components

Operate shears, brakes, rollers, presses, and forming equipment for cutting and shaping sheet metal

Perform drilling, grinding, deburring, filing, trimming, and surface finishing using hand and power tools

Assemble sheet metal components using welding, soldering, bolting, riveting, caulking, and bonding methods

Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, templates, joiner drawings, and NAVSEA installation requirements

Perform interference removal, reinstallation, and modification of components in tight shipboard spaces

Mount and install outfitting equipment, supports, hangers, and foundations

Inspect completed work for accuracy, fit, and compliance with specifications

Work aboard vessels, in dry docks, machinery spaces, tanks, and shop environments

Maintain housekeeping, proper tool control, and all required safety practices
Requirements

Minimum 5 years of sheet metal, joiner, or outfitting experience in ship repair or marine construction

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, templates, and shipboard installation standards

Proficiency with hand tools, pneumatic tools, and sheet metal fabrication machinery

Working knowledge of joiner installation, HVAC duct fabrication, and shipboard outfitting practices

Ability to climb ladders, work aloft, enter confined spaces, and maneuver through shipboard structures

Ability to lift 40–60 lbs and perform physically demanding fabrication and installation tasks

Must supply and maintain trade-appropriate hand tools (specialty equipment provided as needed)

Must pass background check and drug screening

Ability to obtain DBIDS/base access when required

Reliable transportation and consistent attendance

Ability to work overtime, nights, weekends, and variable shifts as needed
Preferred Qualifications

Experience working aboard Navy vessels or to NAVSEA joiner and HVAC standards

Technical or vocational training in sheet metal, HVAC, or marine outfitting

Ability to wear a respirator when required for dust, cutting operations, or confined-space work
-
Familiarity with shipboard compartment numbering and layout identification
