About the job Marine Rigger
Venture Dynamics is seeking skilled Marine Riggers to perform rigging, lifting, and material-handling operations in support of Navy and commercial ship repair projects. This role supports machinery removal, equipment installation, structural movement, and heavy load positioning aboard vessels and in active shipyard environments. Marine Riggers are responsible for executing safe, controlled lifts in accordance with approved lift plans, maritime safety standards, and shipyard procedures. This position supports shipyard projects throughout the Hampton Roads region of Virginia, including Norfolk, Portsmouth, Newport News, Hampton, and Yorktown.
Per diem may be available depending on contract requirements and travel distance.
Responsibilities
- Perform rigging and material-handling operations to support installation, removal, and movement of shipboard equipment and structural components
- Select, inspect, and utilize rigging gear including slings, shackles, chain falls, hooks, spreader bars, and come-alongs
- Signal and coordinate with crane operators during lifts and heavy equipment movements
- Control tag lines and guide suspended loads safely into position aboard vessels
- Set up temporary rigging arrangements and lifting points as required
- Read and interpret lift plans, drawings, and rigging sketches
- Support machinery removals, equipment installations, and structural repair operations
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of shipyard, ship repair, or heavy industrial rigging experience
- Strong knowledge of load control, weight calculations, center-of-gravity principles, and safe lifting practices
- Ability to inspect rigging equipment and determine serviceability
- Experience performing lifts in confined spaces and shipboard environments
- Ability to read and follow lift plans and rigging instructions
- Ability to pass background checks and drug screening per customer requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain required base access credentials, including DBIDS
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working aboard Navy vessels or within NAVSEA-governed shipyards
- Formal rigging, signal person, or crane coordination training
- OSHA 10 Maritime certification
- Experience supporting availability-level or heavy modernization projects
Additional Information
Work is performed aboard vessels, in dry docks, and in industrial shipyard environments. This role requires climbing, lifting, bending, kneeling, and working at heights and in confined spaces. Exposure to suspended loads, weather conditions, noise, and industrial hazards is expected. PPE is required when accessing shipboard or industrial areas, and respiratory protection may be required based on task or environmental conditions. Reliable transportation is required to report to assigned shipyard or project locations. Work schedules may include extended shifts, overtime, nights, weekends, and variable hours based on production and operational requirements.
