GENERAL SUMMARY
The Director of Electrical Engineering at SCEG, a GF company, is responsible for leading the design, management, and successful execution of electrical engineering projects across a diverse portfolio of sectors, including hospitality, multifamily residential, luxury single-family estate homes, entertainment, retail, commercial, educational, healthcare, civic, and mixed-use developments. Project types include hotels, apartments, condominiums, theaters, shopping centers, restaurants, retail stores, schools, offices, hospitals, libraries, museums, and amusement parks, with projects located throughout Hawaii, Washington, South Carolina, Florida, Arizona, and California.

Reporting to a Managing Director, this role is responsible for overall project performance, client satisfaction, technical quality, team leadership, and project profitability. This position serves as both a technical leader and client manager, overseeing project teams, coordinating multidisciplinary efforts, managing project schedules and budgets, and ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards. This position also plays a key role in mentoring engineering staff, maintaining client relationships, supporting business development efforts, and contributing to the firm's continued growth and reputation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position provides leadership, mentorship, and oversight to electrical engineers, designers, and project team members. This role is responsible for guiding staff development, assigning project responsibilities, reviewing work for quality and accuracy, and fostering collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.

Project Leadership & Management

  • Plan, direct, and manage all phases of electrical engineering projects from concept through construction administration.
  • Manage multiple projects and client relationships simultaneously while maintaining high levels of quality, responsiveness, and technical accuracy.
  • Monitor project schedules, budgets, staffing, and deliverables to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Manage client expectations and proactively communicate project progress, challenges, and solutions.
  • Solve project and technical issues independently with minimal oversight.
  • Assist in the preparation of project proposals, scopes of work, fee estimates, and additional service requests.

Technical Design & Engineering

  • Lead the design and coordination of electrical systems including power distribution, lighting, and low-voltage systems.
  • Perform electrical system layouts, load calculations, and equipment sizing for commercial, industrial, institutional, hospitality, residential, and mixed-use projects.
  • Assist in the selection, evaluation, and specification of electrical equipment and systems.
  • Perform site evaluations, field investigations, and engineering assessments and prepare related technical reports.
  • Oversee field observations and reporting during construction phases.
  • Review contractor submittals, RFIs, and related construction documentation for compliance with design intent and project requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, energy standards, industry regulations, and engineering best practices.

Quality Assurance & Coordination

  • Perform and oversee QA/QC reviews to ensure technical accuracy, consistency, and quality across all project deliverables.
  • Coordinate closely with clients, architects, contractors, consultants, utility providers, and jurisdictional authorities throughout project execution.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to develop integrated project solutions.
  • Coordinate with building departments and regulatory agencies to support permitting and approvals processes.

Client Relations & Business Development

  • Develop, maintain, and strengthen long-term relationships with client-partners.
  • Represent the firm professionally in written correspondence, virtual meetings, and in-person client interactions.
  • Support business development initiatives through networking, client engagement, proposal participation, and industry involvement.
  • Participate in professional and industry organizations to support firm visibility and market presence.
  • Contribute to strategic growth initiatives and help identify opportunities for new and repeat business.

Team Leadership & Professional Development

  • Inspire, mentor, and support a team of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineers and designers.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and professional development opportunities for junior staff.
  • Foster a collaborative, accountable, and growth-oriented team environment.
  • Promote firm standards, quality expectations, and professional conduct across project teams.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong technical knowledge of electrical engineering systems, design practices, and construction methodologies.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects, priorities, and client relationships concurrently.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and team management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams.
  • Outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit preferred.
  • Proficiency in Energy Pro, EasyPower, and other industry-standard electrical engineering software.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes, energy regulations, and industry standards.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution; ABET accreditation preferred.
  • Active California Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience designing electrical systems for commercial, industrial, institutional, hospitality, residential, or mixed-use buildings.
  • Demonstrated experience managing engineering projects, teams, and client relationships.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain a strong client base and contribute to business development efforts.
  • Prior experience mentoring and leading engineering staff is strongly preferred.
