GENERAL SUMMARY
The Project Captain plays a critical role in supporting the successful delivery of architectural projects. Reporting to a Senior Project Manager or Project Manager, the Project Captain focuses on specific aspects of a project, ensuring technical accuracy, coordination with consultants, adherence to codes and regulations, and overall project quality. This role supports the Project Manager in maintaining schedules, budgets, and client expectations.
This position requires a combination of technical expertise, organization, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.

This role may supervise junior staff assigned to projects.

Project Documentation and Technical Work
- Produce contract documents, including construction drawings and specifications, in compliance with applicable building codes, zoning regulations, and client standards.
- Prepare and review detailed drawings, layouts, and documentation to ensure accuracy, constructability, and completeness.
- Check and coordinate shop drawings submitted by consultants or contractors.
- Review and ensure consistency across architectural, structural, MEP, civil, and other design disciplines.
Consultant and Team Coordination
- Collaborate with engineering consultants and other external design professionals to ensure design integration and code compliance.
- Coordinate with internal design teams to maintain project alignment with client goals and project requirements.
- Support the Project Manager in planning and prioritizing tasks to meet project milestones and deadlines.
Construction Administration and Site Involvement
- Conduct site visits as needed to observe construction progress, verify compliance with design intent, and address technical issues.
- Assist with responding to Requests for Information (RFIs), submittals, and field questions.
- Collaborate with contractors and consultants to resolve design and construction challenges.
Project Support and Leadership
- Assist the Project Manager or Senior Project Manager with project organization, scheduling, and documentation.
- Mentor junior staff and provide technical guidance as needed.
- Support quality control efforts and maintain documentation for project records.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Strong working knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and approval processes.
- Solid understanding of building systems and site requirements, including Structural, MEP, Civil, and Geo-Technical considerations.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and conscientious.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while managing assigned responsibilities.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with internal teams, consultants, and construction personnel.
- Maintains a positive, professional, and engaging attitude when interacting with both internally and externally.
- Proficiency with current versions of Revit, AutoCAD, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelors or Masters degree in architecture from an accredited program.
- A minimum 4 years of combined experience in fast casual restaurant and commercial retail/mixed-use projects.
- Licensure in architecture is preferred.
