Hydraulic Engineer - Rig Mechanic
PURPOSE OF JOB:
The Hydraulic Engineer - Rig Mechanic is responsible to the Chief Mechanic for the day-to-day maintenance and operation of hydraulic systems and mechanical equipment on the rig.
Primary Responsibilities:
- To maintain and repair hydraulic and mechanical systems on the rig ensuring that all equipment operates safely and efficiently.
- To assist in the supervision of all work carried out on hydraulic and mechanical systems ensuring that such work is carried out efficiently and in compliance with authorised operating procedures and Company Safety Policy.
- To monitor and maintain hydraulic fluid levels and ensure the proper functioning of all hydraulic systems.
- To troubleshoot and diagnose faults in hydraulic and mechanical systems and carry out necessary repairs.
- To ensure that all equipment under their control complies with statutory requirements and is maintained at all times in a safe condition or is otherwise completely withdrawn from service.
- To ensure that all employees under their authority have sufficient information and knowledge to carry out their job without endangering any persons, plant, or equipment and are adequately trained and experienced for a particular task before they are instructed to carry it out.
- To provide advice to personnel under their authority on all operational matters as required and to supervise specific employees until sufficiently experienced.
- To direct the personnel under their authority in the practical steps to ensure that all working places are maintained in a clean, tidy, and safe condition and all working practices employed are safe.
- To ensure that health and safety at work and accident prevention are continuously brought to the attention of employees under their authority by means of job supervision, instruction, and training.
- To participate in the performance evaluation of the personnel under their authority as required.
- To carry out competence assessment in respect of departmental staff.
- To carry out/supervise and record maintenance, repair, or replacement tasks in accordance with the Company's Planned Preventative Maintenance system.
Safety Responsibilities:
- To be familiar and comply with the Company Safety Policy and to take all reasonable care to ensure the health and safety of themself and persons likely to be affected by their acts or omissions as required under local Health and Safety legislation.
- To ensure that all working places for personnel on the unit are always, so far as reasonably practical, safe within the meaning of the above.
- To bring to the immediate notice of their supervisor actual and potential hazards to safety, health, plant, and equipment which come to their attention in the course of their work, to warn crew of the hazard and take such action as to minimise the risk.
- To ensure that all accidents, unsafe practices, or conditions observed by the persons under their authority are reported promptly to either the Chief Mechanic or Supervisor.
- To ensure that planned safety inspections and audits on the installation are carried out as requested and in accordance with Company Safety Policy.
- To ensure that all personnel under their authority properly use and care for their personal protective equipment and to verify from time to time that such equipment is in serviceable condition.
- To ensure that rig safety meetings, emergency, and drills are attended by themself and those under their authority in accordance with the Company Safety Policy.
- Responsible for stopping any operation, condition, or situation which is deemed unsafe.
Qualification Requirements:
- Minimum 3-year experience on computer-based offshore/onshore drilling rigs including 1-2-year experience as Hydraulic Engineer or Rig Mechanic.
- Including 2-year experience as Assistant Mechanic or similar mechanical related position.
- Good knowledge of hydraulic and mechanical systems.
- Conversant with safety management principles.
- Computer literate and conversant with computer-based control systems.
- Well Control Certificate Mechanic level issued by an institution approved by IWCF.
- Working knowledge of English both spoken and written.
- Safety Training Courses and Medical Certificate (UKOOA or Equivalent) in accordance with the requirements stipulated for regular crew by the authority for the current operating area. Local medical examination might be conducted when required.
- Training as per the Training Matrix or as designated by Vanguard Drilling. OEUK Medical, IWCF Level 3, First Aid Training & VCA or SCC.
