Drilling Supervisor Responsibilities for Onshore Operations

  • The drilling supervisor is responsible for overseeing all onshore drilling activities, including the setup and maintenance of drilling equipment, execution of drilling procedures, monitoring drilling parameters, and ensuring compliance with local regulations and safety standards.
  • The drilling supervisor leads and manages the drilling crews on-site, ensuring that each crew member is aware of their roles and responsibilities ,also coordinates team activities to guarantee efficient and consistent execution of drilling operations, fostering a collaborative work environment.
  • Safety is paramount in onshore drilling operations. The drilling supervisor ensures adherence to stringent safety protocols and regulations specific to Western Europe. Also, identifies potential hazards, implements risk mitigation strategies, and conducts regular training sessions to promote safe work practices among the team.
  • Onshore drilling may face unexpected technical or operational challenges. The drilling supervisor is tasked with swiftly addressing these issues, making informed decisions in real-time, and coordinating necessary actions to minimise operational disruptions while maintaining compliance with local regulations.
  • The drilling supervisor continuously monitors drilling performance in terms of efficiency, speed, and quality. Supervisor analyses drilling data, performance metrics, and key performance indicators to ensure that operational objectives are met and that the quality of work adheres to industry standards and local requirements.
  • The drilling supervisor facilitates effective communication among drilling teams, management, and external stakeholders. Candidate collaborates closely with drilling engineers, geologists, and environmental specialists to ensure seamless coordination of operations while addressing any local environmental concerns.
  • The drilling supervisor is responsible for preparing comprehensive reports on drilling activities, performance metrics, and compliance with local regulations. Required Skills

  • 6-9 years of relevant experience.
  • Must possess a valid IWCF Level 4 Well control Cert.
  • Possess extensive expertise in various drilling methods utilised in the petroleum industry, including rotary drilling, directional drilling, horizontal drilling, and advanced techniques such as managed pressure drilling and under-balanced drilling. This includes understanding the advantages and limitations of each method and the ability to select the most effective approach for specific geological conditions.
  • Demonstrate strong project management capabilities, including the ability to develop detailed drilling programs, set clear objectives, allocate resources efficiently, and establish timelines. Proficient in using project management tools and methodologies to monitor progress, manage risks, and ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Exhibit exceptional leadership qualities to inspire and guide the drilling team. This includes the ability to delegate responsibilities effectively, foster collaboration, and create a positive work environment that encourages team members to excel and innovate.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of safety regulations and best practices specific to the petroleum industry. This includes implementing and enforcing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, and leading safety training programs to minimise hazards and ensure the well-being of all personnel.
  • Exhibit strong analytical and critical thinking abilities to swiftly identify, assess, and resolve technical and operational challenges that may arise during drilling operations. Utilise a systematic approach to troubleshoot issues and implement corrective actions effectively.
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication abilities, both verbal and written, to convey complex information clearly and concisely. Effectively engage with team members, stakeholders, and regulatory authorities to ensure alignment and facilitate collaboration.
  • Show proficiency in managing all aspects of resourcesmaterial, human, and financialrelated to drilling operations. Optimise resource allocation and utilisation while adhering to budgetary constraints and maximising operational efficiency.
  • Possess strong analytical skills to assess drilling data, including operational parameters, drill logs, and geological samples. Use data-driven insights to evaluate well performance, inform decision-making, and enhance drilling strategies.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of pertinent regulations, industry standards, and best practices related to drilling, safety, and environmental protection. Ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements throughout the drilling process.
