Agile Coach 0807-1
About the job Agile Coach 0807-1
Key Responsibilities
- Coach squads, product owners, scrum masters and engineering leads on agile principles, frameworks and delivery practices, tailored to the context of enterprise and regulated environments.
- Establish and evolve agile ways of working across the Digital Factory, covering backlog management, sprint cadences, planning, estimation, prioritisation and definition-of-done across sandbox, QA, UAT and production workflows.
- Coach product owners on outcome-based delivery, roadmap shaping, value prioritisation, stakeholder alignment and translating business goals into well-formed backlogs.
- Facilitate agile ceremonies, workshops, retrospectives, release planning and cross-team synchronisation to strengthen collaboration and flow across squads.
- Help teams adopt a system-of-systems, product-oriented mindset that supports reusable capabilities, dependency management and scaled delivery across multiple squads.
- Introduce and embed delivery metrics — flow, velocity, cycle time, predictability, quality and team health — and coach teams to use them for continuous improvement rather than surveillance.
- Partner with platform engineers and DevOps practitioners to align agile delivery with CI/CD, automation, golden paths and engineering excellence practices.
- Coach leadership on agile governance, funding models, portfolio prioritisation, dependency resolution and removing organisational impediments to delivery.
- Champion a culture of psychological safety, experimentation, learning and continuous improvement across teams and management forums.
- Design and run agile capability-building programmes, including training, communities of practice, coaching clinics and onboarding for new squads and augmented resources.
- Document agile playbooks, delivery standards, coaching frameworks, retrospectives and lessons learned to support adoption, knowledge retention and continuous improvement.
Required Skills and Experience
- 8+ years of experience in agile delivery, agile coaching, scrum mastering or delivery leadership, including significant experience coaching multiple teams in enterprise or regulated environments.
- Deep, practical mastery of agile frameworks and methods, including Scrum, Kanban and scaled approaches such as SAFe, LeSS or Scrum@Scale, with the judgement to adapt rather than apply them dogmatically.
- Strong experience coaching product owners and product teams on backlog management, outcome-based prioritisation, roadmap shaping and value delivery.
- Ability to coach at individual, team and organisational levels, meeting people where they are and tailoring interventions to context, maturity and constraints.
- Strong facilitation skills across planning, retrospectives, workshops, conflict resolution and cross-team coordination.
- Experience establishing and interpreting delivery metrics (flow, cycle time, predictability, quality, team health) to drive continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with modern software delivery practices, including CI/CD, automation, DevOps culture, engineering excellence and product operating models.
- Strong understanding of governance, compliance and delivery assurance in regulated settings, and the ability to reconcile agility with accountability and auditability.
- Excellent communication, influencing and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to coach and challenge senior leaders, technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable working in an ambiguous, evolving, product-oriented environment where ways of working are improved incrementally through feedback.
Preferred Skills
- Experience operating in Government Commercial Cloud, public sector or regulated enterprise environments.
- Recognised agile certifications such as CSP, PSM II/III, ICP-ACC, ICP-ENT, SAFe SPC or equivalent coaching credentials.
- Experience coaching squads that blend permanent staff and augmented resources across onshore and offshore delivery models.
- Exposure to platform engineering, developer experience, internal platforms and golden-path adoption from a delivery-enablement perspective.
- Familiarity with Azure DevOps, GitHub, Jira, Azure Boards or equivalent tooling for backlog, flow and delivery visualisation.
- Experience designing agile transformation roadmaps, capability-building programmes, communities of practice and coaching operating models.
- Understanding of AI-enabled product delivery and how agile practices adapt to data, ML and AI product development.
