  • Design for the range of users the system serves — coordinators, administrators, and volunteers — accounting for their differing needs and contexts.
  • Establish consistent UI patterns and components across the system.
  • Plan and run usability testing to validate interface decisions, and translate findings into design improvements.
  • Ensure interfaces meet accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1) and are applied in practice.
  • Partner with researchers, product, and engineering teams to move designs from concept through to implementation.
  • Contribute reusable patterns and components back to the government design system where relevant.

  • Strong UI craft — layout, typography, hierarchy, and interaction design across responsive and data-heavy screens.
  • Advanced proficiency in Figma, including componentization and design tokens.
  • Hands-on usability testing experience — planning, running, and acting on findings.
  • Practical fluency in accessibility and inclusive design (WCAG 2.1, ARIA-aware design).
  • Experience designing workflow- or management-type systems (dashboards, records, scheduling) is an advantage.
  • Clear communication of design rationale to technical and non-technical audiences.
