Job Summary
USALCO is seeking a detail-oriented and safety-focused Lab Technician to support quality control and laboratory operations at its Baltimore manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for performing analytical testing of intermediate and finished products, preparing and shipping samples, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The ideal candidate is a motivated team player who can work independently, communicate effectively, and consistently deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced chemical manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine analytical testing (e.g., pH, acid value, solids, titrations) on products to ensure quality standards are met
  • Prepare, label, package, and ship product samples; maintain proper sample disposal procedures
  • Accurately record and manage Certificate of Analysis (COA) data and product quality information in ERP systems
  • Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Organize, catalog, and maintain laboratory samples, reagents, and documentation
  • Assist with preparation of shipping and quality documentation (e.g., COA, BOL)
  • Support production by tracking batch data and communicating test results to supervisors and operators
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, and inventory of supplies
  • Monitor environmental compliance activities (e.g., stormwater sampling and reporting, as applicable)
  • Follow all plant safety rules, procedures, and PPE requirements
  • Collaborate with production personnel, supervisors, and vendors
  • Identify and support continuous improvement opportunities in lab processes and procedures
  • Perform additional duties as needed to support business objectives

Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED required

Experience (Preferred)

  • Experience in a chemical, manufacturing, or laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with basic chemical testing methods (pH, titration, solids, etc.)
  • Experience with laboratory instrumentation (e.g., FT-IR, UV/Vis, hydrometers) is a plus

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Solid analytical and mathematical aptitude
  • Working knowledge of laboratory safety and procedures
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data entry systems (ERP experience a plus)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work both independently and within a team

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Prolonged standing (60–80% of shift)
  • Ability to lift up to 50–75 lbs. occasionally
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions
  • Ability to move throughout the facility as needed
