Role Overview
The Detailer Lead - Mech Piping supports construction projects through the creation, coordination, and management of mechanical piping shop drawings and BIM models, leading the mechanical piping detailing team and constructability efforts on generally smaller and less complex projects.
This role focuses on mechanical piping trade coordination and technical leadership, partnering closely with the design and modeling group and leading the final trade sign-off process for mechanical piping scope. This is a remote role.
This role may be filled at varying levels based on the candidate's skills, experience, and overall qualifications. Final title, level, and compensation will be determined through the interview and assessment process and will be aligned with internal equity and external market benchmarks.
Core Responsibilities
- Lead the mechanical piping detailing team and constructability efforts on generally smaller and less complex projects
- Partner with the design and modeling group to incorporate mechanical piping constructability knowledge in a timely manner to minimize model rework
- Lead communication among project team members on mechanical piping coordination and scope; ensure concerns are addressed and resolved
- Provide material, content, and feedback to mechanical piping detailers on the team
- Lead the final mechanical piping trade coordination and sign-off process with the general contractor
- Contribute to the design pull schedule to direct model development for mechanical piping scope of work
- Manage resources assigned to mechanical piping detailing tasks
- Participate in conceptual design for mechanical piping systems supporting modular construction and constructability standards
- Review and QA/QC mechanical piping shop drawings and models prior to release
- Support budget planning and maintain cost accountability for mechanical piping detailing work
Required Background
- High School diploma or GED and minimum of 6 years of progressive mechanical piping detailing experience, or completed mechanical piping trade apprenticeship program and minimum of 4 years of related field experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, or a related field preferred
- Field Foreman or General Foreman experience in the mechanical piping trade preferred
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write, edit, and proofread content
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical piping construction documents and specifications
- Current, hands-on knowledge of mechanical piping trades and field installation methods
- Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring mechanical piping detailers
- Strong attention to detail and quality control on mechanical piping shop drawings
- Ability to coordinate projects
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize
- Ability to interpret the construction schedule to integrate a design pull schedule
- Working knowledge of applicable AEC, BIM, and CAD software (Navisworks, Revit, AutoCAD)
