About the job Senior QA Engineer
About Trideca
Trideca is a specialist technology consultancy delivering outcomes across enterprise integration, digital transformation, data, and cloud. We partner with Australia's leading organisations to build, integrate, and scale mission-critical platforms. Our teams combine deep technical expertise with pragmatic delivery - we embed alongside clients, roll our sleeves up, and get things shipped. We are growing quickly, and we are selective about the people we bring on: we hire for craft, care and character.
About the Role
Trideca is seeking a Senior QA Engineer to own automation test coverage across a complex enterprise integration programme. Automation test coverage across the integration layer is a known gap, as the Senior QA Engineer, you are the owner of that gap. You stand up the automation test framework, write the contract and end-to-end tests, integrate them into CI, and give the squad confidence that every integration flow is verifiable on demand.
This is a hands-on build role, you are writing and maintaining tests, not only defining strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Framework & Coverage
Establish the automation test framework for integration flows across a connected platform ecosystem of 10+ systems including digital care management, ERP, and rostering and scheduling tools. Design and build automated contract, API, event and end-to-end tests covering all connected systems. Build and maintain test data, mocks and stubs for upstream and downstream systems; keep reference data aligned with production patterns. Integrate automated tests into the CI/CD pipeline so they run on every change; set quality gates with the Tech Lead.
Test Design & Acceptance
Partner with the Business Analyst to convert acceptance criteria into automated checks at the right level (unit, contract, integration, end-to-end). Cover non-functional behaviour: idempotency, retries, replay, error paths, timeout handling, data validation and reference data boundaries. Define and maintain a regression pack that supports fast feedback during build and reliable sign-off at release. Support performance and resilience testing where relevant to integration SLAs.
Squad Delivery & Quality
Work alongside Integration Engineers through build; pair on test design early so coverage is in place before stories close. Triage defects and flaky tests; fix root causes rather than muting or skipping. Track quality metrics (coverage, defect trend, mean time to green, flakiness) and report clearly to the Tech Lead and Squad Lead. Support UAT planning and execution with business owners; help capture defects into the backlog with clear reproduction steps.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Act as the quality point of contact between Trideca's squad and the client's Connected Technology team. Communicate quality status, risk and trade-offs clearly to both engineering and non-technical stakeholders. Raise systemic quality issues early; propose practical fixes that keep the squad moving.
Essential Requirements
- 5+ years in test automation or QA engineering on enterprise integration, API or platform programmes.
- Hands-on experience building automated test frameworks for integration and API workloads (e.g. Postman/Newman, REST Assured, Karate, Playwright, Cypress, pytest, Cucumber/Gherkin).
- Strong understanding of integration patterns: REST/JSON APIs, event-driven, pub/sub, request-reply, idempotency, retries and error handling.
- Experience testing iPaaS or integration platforms (Workato, MuleSoft, Boomi, Azure Integration Services, Celigo); comfortable reading flows or recipes.
- Experience designing and running contract tests and end-to-end integration tests across multiple heterogeneous systems.
- Experience wiring automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (e.g. Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins).
- Solid scripting or coding skills (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java or similar) to build and maintain framework code.
- Experience with test data management, mocking and service virtualisation for integration environments.
- Agile delivery experience: backlog refinement, story-level acceptance criteria, sprint-based testing.
- Australian-based, with full working rights. Able to work on-site in Melbourne or Sydney as required.
Highly Desirable
- Prior experience on Workato or MoveIT-based integration programmes.
- Integration testing experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central (APIs, events, data flows).
- Experience testing rostering, scheduling or workforce management platforms (e.g. Humanforce, Kronos, UKG, Deputy).
- Background in aged care, home care, health insurance or broader healthcare services.
- Performance, resilience or chaos testing experience relevant to integration SLAs.
- Experience working in embedded client squads or vendor-augmented engineering models.
Personal Attributes
- Owner of quality - treats coverage, stability and confidence as the primary deliverable.
- Pragmatic - balances coverage with delivery pace; knows when to go deep and when to move on.
- Low-ego, high-trust operator who collaborates well inside a client squad.
- Clear communicator, able to raise quality issues constructively and with evidence. Explains trade-offs in terms of cost, speed, quality, and risk - not implementation detail.
- Comfortable operating at pace with a fixed MVP date; calm under pressure.
- Responsive and follows through on commitments - trusted to deliver quality at pace.
- Demonstrates delivery and execution discipline, keeps Jira and reporting accurate at all times.
